The Power of Design
We’ve all been touched by Lego at some stage in our lives. Built with it, played with it, dreamt in it. Having just visited one of the world’s ’10 must-see exhibitions’ according to CNN, I can now fully comprehend the power behind these tiny bricks.
Artist Nathan Sawaya shares his story during the exhibit of over 80 pieces of art, ranging from powerful, moving and thought-provoking to fun, current and quirky. Having seen such pieces as ‘Yellow’, ‘Swimmer’ and ‘The Boy’, it’s astounding to witness what is widely accepted as a best-selling toy being used in such a poignant way, and easy to understand why the exhibition has broken records around the globe.
The design you will be exposed to merges Pop Art with Surrealism, utilising material, colour, movement, light and perspective to unique effect. The juxtaposition of ‘toy’ meeting ‘art’ made me think of the power of ‘simple’. Often, in the world of commercial creativity, ideas can easily become overly complicated, defectively messy. I believe the sheer supremacy of each piece at ‘The Art of the Brick’ comes from honest simplicity. In advertising we often talk about the power of a single message. This is achieved in each of Sawaya’s pieces. But it’s the way in which he has designed each piece and built a complete narrative that wows.
At LAW Creative we believe whole-heartedly in the power of a single message. And as Sawaya has here, we too know how to build complete works of art and commercially successful creative.
