Stay Friends With Your Ex

Stay Friends With Your Ex

Nowadays divorce can be too easy. There’s a major disagreement in the marriage, no one is prepared to talk or iron out a solution and the next thing you know it’s lawyers or even referendum time.

But before you rush out, post-divorce, to sign on to a worldwide online dating site and resort to mud-slinging against your ex partner with statements like, ‘you’ve never had a proper job anyway’, remember some of the reasons why you liked your original partner to start with. Remember what you have achieved together and the commitment you shared. Remember that you still have common values, goals and a history together. And for the sake of the children, there can be a future once all of the nastiness and acrimony has subsided!!

Given the momentous events that have taken place during the last few weeks there may be a mood amongst UK marketeers to get out there, forget your old partner and conquer the brave new world that will be waiting to welcome you with open arms. But if you’ve ever tried to build business in the USA, China and Russia from scratch, you’ll already know that it takes time and a great deal of effort. And when the likes of President Obama say that Britain will be at the back of the queue for business in the USA, it’s plain to see that moving on is never going to be easy.

We already have brilliant friends, partners, customers and suppliers in Europe and even if we are forced to look to the wider world, let’s not be too hasty in even thinking about brushing aside our current partners or rushing headlong into new relationships. We may have had a divorce, but we still respect each other and would prefer to help each other and build a bright new relationship for the future, however hard that seems to be to achieve in the short-term.
